Our beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. cupped his body several times and also advised his Ummah to use cupping as it is the master of all remedies. This just goes to prove hijama benefits.

There are also hijama benefits for skin. It initially leaves a mark on the skin, but the effects can be seen with time. It increases blood flow to the skin, which in turn allows it to receive more nutrients. The improved blood flow brings more nutrients to the skin, which benefits from better health.

Performing Hijama in Sunnah Days

The best days for cupping (hijama) are the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic, lunar month which coincides with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. These are the days in which maximum hijama benefits can be taken.

Anas ibn Maalik R.A. reported that the Messenger S.A.W. said, “Whoever wants to perform cupping (hijama) then let him search for the 17th, 19th and 21st…” – [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3486)].

This hadith verifies that the best hijama dates are on the aforementioned dates.

Ibn Umar R.A reported that the Messenger S.A.W. said, “So cup yourselves with the blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping (hijama) on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping (hijama) on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah saved Ayoub from a trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night.” – [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)].

These hijama benefits for skin and other body parts clearly show that Muslims can greatly benefit from it. Moreover, this hadith shows the best hijama dates for

Hijama for Weight Loss

Alternate medicine doctors often advise overweight patients to undergo hijama for weight loss. There are 2 main reasons for excessive fat accumulation: abnormal, slow metabolism and improper diet. Hijama benefits include treating both. It boosts blood flow, which in turn increases metabolism and catabolism of stored adipose tissue. However, hijama for weight loss cannot be fully availed without improving dietary intake, otherwise, the changes will be short-lived.

For hijama benefits, its treatment or cupping therapy can be performed at almost all parts of the body. However, when looking for a certain type of treatment, the points vary to the location of the disease where the cup is to be placed.

Hijama Benefits for Ladies

There is a misconception that there are no benefits of hijama for ladies. In fact, hijama works just as well for women as it does for men.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. took Hijama treatment on various points. We are highlighting the particular points where the Holy Prophet himself got cupped, so are regarded as the Sunnah Points.

  • Between the Shoulders (KAHIL -upper back)

The area between the shoulders blades, most commonly in line with the inferior end of the scapula is ideal for reaping hijama benefits. This particular area is best for performing general Hajima as it is the area where toxins and impurities in the blood accumulate and stagnate especially around the 17th, 19th and 21st of the month. In traditional Chinese medicine, this point is regarded as the meeting point of blood and is used for all blood disorders whether due to deficiency or excess.

When Prophet S.A.W. and his companions ate poisoned sheep presented by a Jewish woman, Prophet S.A.W and his companions used cupping between the shoulders on point Kahil as an antidote, yet several of them died.

  • The Center of his Head (Yafookh)

The benefits of hijama on head are also well-heard of. It is commonly used to treat all mental, emotional disorders, but also useful for headaches, epilepsy, neurological and endocrine disorders.

Abdullah Bin R.A. reported that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. took Hijamah on the center of his head (Yafookh) and he was in Ehraam while his journey to Makkah. – [Ibn-e-Maja]

Patients report benefits of hijama on head to include relief from headache and improved mental clarity. This can be traced to the fact that it increases blood flow as it activates the blood capillaries to conduct blood.

  • Above the Nape Cavity (Qamahduwah)

Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. himself got cupped at this point, Prophet S.A.W. said, “Use Hijamah (wet cupping) on the Qamahduwah (above the nape cavity), for it cures seventy-two 72 kinds of ailments” – [Tibrani]

Cupping therapy at this point is a cure for 72 diseases some of which include diarrhea, constipation, backbone pain, and stomachache. It improves the health of the pancreas and enhances the overall efficiency of the digestive system. Hijama benefits are numerous and can provide relief from numerous other diseases.

Abu Dawood narrated that Jabir R.A. said that Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. used Hijamah (wet cupping) on his hip because of the debilitation he suffered from. – [Sunnan]

  • Top of the Foot

This area is traditionally used to treat swelling, headaches, dizziness/ vertigo, abdominal pain, bloating & constipation. It can also be used to treat ADD/ADHD, mania, restlessness, palpitations and epilepsy.

Hazrat Anas R.A. reported that (while in Ehraam), Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. took Hijamah treatment on the top of his foot. – [Abu Dawood].

This shows that hijama benefits can be taken from conducting it even on the feet. It extends to the hijama benefits for skin of the feet.
