Benefits of Quince/Safarjal Fruit

Safarjal or also known in the west as quince fruit or bahi fruit is one of the most nutrition-packed foods to choose for breakfast. Aside from its nutritional content, it also has medicinal properties especially effective against heart conditions, intestinal ulcers and Women during their pregnancies. It is best used for breakfast with honey and barley bread. Bahi fruit is an excellent ingredient to make jam, as it can be preserved for a longer duration. Moreover, bahi fruit naturally contains pectin, which enables it to be easily converted to jam.

Hazrat Anas Bin Malik reported that that Holy Prophet S.A.W said,

“Eat Safarjal early morning on an empty stomach” Kanz al-Ummal – 28259.

On one occasion it was narrated by Hadhrat Talha that he once went to Holy Prophet S.A.W and saw Safarjal in the Holy Prophets’ hand and said,

Take it, oh! Talha for it soothes the heart” Majah – 3494

It is one of the most frequently mentioned fruits in the Hadiths that reflects its importance in prophetic medicine. Back at the time of the Holy Prophet S.A.W, many fruits were grown and eaten due to their taste and aroma, especially safarjal fruit.  However, their medicinal values were often ignored. Holy Prophet taught the Arabs the real purpose behind Allah’s creation of every fruit and how they could help treat so many illnesses by preparing them the right way.
