“Woe unto you! Do not kill your children. Let the mother whose child is suffering from tonsillitis or headache scrub Indian costus (aloes) with water and then administer it to the child through the nose”.

When Aishah R.A. ordered that the tonsils remedy prescription be followed, the boy was cured, showing the value of this tonsils treatment [ Shaihain]

On several occasions, Prophet S.A.W. advised using Indian Costsus for the treatment of Tonsillitis. In another incident, Prophet S.A.W. said,

“It is upon you to use Indian Costus for indeed it contains seven cures; it is inhaled through the nostrils to relieve throat aches/tonsillitis and placed in the sides of the mouth for the relief of Pleurisy” [Bukhaaree and Muslim.]

Children are more susceptible to the Tonsillitis virus because of their weak immune system and careless nature. Another Sahabi when presented his child in front of Prophet S.A.W. to seek tonsils treatment. He (S.A.W). prescribed a tonsils remedy, saying:

“The cure of sciatica is in the fat tail of a desert sheep molten and split into three parts. Each part is to be taken on an empty stomach for three following days”. Ibn E Majah

Heat the raw fat to get it in molten form. Heating is essential as it kills all bacteria and harmful insects. Cool it down and consume it in molten form on empty stomach early in the morning for consecutive three days. This method is scientifically proven as the desert sheep’s fat are enriched in Omega3 which reduces inflammation and considered as one of the best treatment for Sciatica.

It must be taken on an empty stomach, so that no other lipids compete with the lipids of the tail for absorption in the digestive tract at the vesicles and pancreas level, in addition to the cellular level where the enzymes acting at the membrane convert those lipids of the omega 3 group to the beneficial type 3 prostaglandin that reduce the inflammations and the pain caused by Sciatica.

  • Hazrat Anas Bin Malik narrates that once a tailor invited Holy Prophet S.A.W to join in his meals. He prepared barley bread and meat with pumpkin. The Prophet S.A.W very affectionately ate the pumpkin pieces from the curry – Bukhari/Muslim
  • Yousuf Bin Abdullah states that I saw the Prophet taking a piece of barley bread and put a date on it and stated that was bread’s vegetable – Abu Dawood
  • Hazrat Ummul Manzar states that the Prophet S.A.W along with Hazrat Ali came to our house, we had the dates and those were presented to them. Both of them ate from those dates. When Hazrat Ali consumed a little of those, Holy Prophet S.A.W said “You recently recovered from illness, hence you are weak, don’t eat more. Therefore, that lady prepared a dish from barley and beet root. Then, the Holy Prophet S.A.W told Hazrat Ali “eat from it, it is better for you” – Ibn-e-Maja, Sanad-e-Ahmed, Tirmizi


A gruel prepared from the barley boiled with milk and sweetened with honey is famous meal called ‘Talbina’. Holy Prophet ate talbina several times and recommended its use for many forms of ailments of the mind and body.

How it’s Made

Talbina is made from from barley flour milk with the slight flavoring of Honey. To prepare a meal of talbina, you need 1-2 tablespoons of whole grain barley flour and add into one and a half cup of milk. Once you have mixed the two in vigorous motion to avoid lump formation, cook on a low heat for 10-15 minutes. The same broth is ideal for being added in soups and stews to thicken the consistency instead of using artificial ingredients. Honey or brown sugar can be added to flavor and served as breakfast.

  • Each time someone from Holy Prophet’s family fell sick, talbina was prepared. Holy Prophet S.A.W stated “it removes the grief of the patient’s heart, removes its weakness as any of you removes the dirt from your face after washing it” – Ibn Maja
  • Hazrat Aisha used to order preparation of talbina for sick persons and used to say “though the patient may dislike it, but it is highly beneficial for him – Bukhari


There are 21 hadiths that recommend the used use of sattoo as a healthy diet. Sattoo is powdered barley used in confections and soups. It’s easily mixed to add consistency in gravies and makes up for a thick gruel for porridges.

Holy Prophet S.A.W liked Sattoo very much. When Khyber was conquered, Holy Prophet S.A.W. agreed to join hand in marriage with Hazrat Safia and ordered Hazrat Anas Bin Malik to make preparations Dawat-e-Walima of Hazrat Safia and invite guests. According to the narrations of Tirmizi, Ibn Majah and Bukhari, a confection made from dates and sattoo was served to the guests at the walima.

Hummus Recipe

Hummus Recipe is very easy. Originally the paste was grounded with the help of mortar and pestle, but now with the help of technology, a simple blender will do the trick.

  1. First take 100-200 grams of chickpeas (depending on the amount of serving you intend to make) and add it to the container.
  2. The easiest way would be to get some premade tahini from the market, but if that’s not possible, dry roast 50-100 g white sesame seeds and add it to the container.
  3. Use 1-2 table spoons of lemon juice and mix it with green chilies, garlic cloves and salt for taste. Now blend the contents until a smooth paste is formed.
  4. Transfer the paste out from the bowl and add parsley, mint or coriander to garnish.
