Loaded with taste, nutrients and healing powers, Dates are the best Middle Eastern delight and are among the most blessed fruits of nature. Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. consumed them in his normal diet and therefore; is a source of strength, taste and blessing.

There are several Ahadith and Quranic verses relating to the importance and benefits of dates. Dates and date palms are mentioned in the Qur’an 20 times and were also the food Almighty provided to Hazrat Maryam (R.A.) when she felt labor pains and after she gave birth to Prophet Jesus (PBUH) under the palm tree. Allah Almighty revealed to her the following:

“Shake the trunk of the palm tree, and it will drop ripe dates on you, so eat, drink, and comfort your eyes with what Allah gave you.” (Qur’an 19:25)


The Best Way to Consume Dates

Date is an amazing fruit to add in daily diet; however, the best way to consume is to follow the habits of our Beloved Prophet S.A.W., which are as follows,

The Prophet (Pbuh) used to combine them with bread sometimes. At other times he mixed ripe dates with cucumber, or with ghee. He used to take all varieties of dates, but he preferred the variety called Ajwa.

 “Abdullah ibn Jaafar, R.A said the Messenger ate cucumbers with dates.” (Al-Tirmidhi) According to two other traditions recorded by Al-Tirmidhi, the Prophet ate them with watermelon or muskmelon, to neutralize the heat effect.

The Prophet (S.A.W.) used to eat odd number of dates. Bukhari (Hadeeth 2.73)

Prophet S.A.W. advised to break the fast by eating dates because it’s purifying.

Today, dates are widely grown in almost all parts of the worlds. Apart from their delicious taste, they are good for our good body health. We are summarizing here some of the most important benefits.

Dates have amazing laxative properties. They are prescribed to the people suffering from constipation. They have a high content of soluble fiber, which is very beneficial in helping bowels movements and comfortable passage of feces through intestinal tract.


To get maximum digestive benefits, soak fresh dates in water overnight and eat them in the morning like syrup and get the most optimal results.
